sitting still?

Today on Ozarks-at-Large, a radio program on  our local NPR radio station, our making of canes for the Eureka Family Medical Center will be featured. It was a great public service project for our Clear Spring School middle school students that we completed earlier in the year. Tune in to KUAF, 91.3 on the FM dial if you are in the local listening area for the 12 AM broadcast. The program will also be available as a podcast on the Ozarks-at-Large website.

It appears that others are noticing that children being confined at desks is not a good idea. The following link is to an article on CNN: How about a dance break, for instance? Children need to move and their brains work better when their bodies are working, too, a thing Comenius had noted in the 17th century.

When I walk through the classrooms at the Clear Spring School, I find evidence of wood shop on desks as is shown in the photo. These are boxes. I spent most of yesterday sitting at my desk, organizing photographs from years of wood shop t the Clear Spring School and writing a few words for a new book on teaching woodworking to kids.

Make, fix, create, and assist others in learning lifewise.
