Science daily has a new article about Susan Goldin-Meadow's research on the use of gesture in the teaching of math.
Today in the wood shop at Clear Spring School the 3rd and 4th grades students continued working on paper sloyd. The system of paper folding from the early 1900s is designed to develop skills in measuring and spatial sense as well as fine motor skills in cutting, and folding flat sheets of paper into 3-dimensional useful items. The first and second grade students finished their small boxes for their imaginary travel to Australia.
