wood shop survey

W. Andrew Harrell, Ph.D. is a retired university professor who believes that wood shop should be a part of every middle school and high school curriculum in America. He has developed a survey for shop teachers to gather information for making the case. You can contact Dr. Harrell and take the survey by contacting him at

The survey explores the risks involved in woodworking programs. For a discussion of the benefits, readers might enjoy this document, 21 Reasons for School Wood Shops that I helped write for the New England Association of Woodworking Teachers.

I am now preparing for a class next week at ESSA on the brain, hands and the arts.
