We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

Teacher's College Household and Industrial Arts Reading Room
The days are gone. This is from when a book plate from a major university would note the value of manual training in schools. Teacher's College, part of Columbia University, was once a significant home for the manual training movement in the US, and the hands were once noted as essential to education. That was before we decided that the efficient processing of students through the system was more important than their growth and character.
