This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

This morning I made a presentation on the Wisdom of the Hands program at the monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Men's Association, and the Clear Spring wood shop went into action with an ESSA wood turning class taught by Fayetteville wood turner, Greg Thomas. I feel fortunate to live in an arts community in which the concept, "hands-on" is appreciated and its value better understood. Photo above, learning to turn green wood. It doesn't take long to get started.
I love watching woodturners. Hours pass, the pile of sawdust reaches up to their knees, and they never notice. They reach what the cartoonist Scott Adams calls "nerdvana."
