This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

The footstool is now ready for seagrass which should arrive tomorrow. The only sanding required was where the branches were sawn and at the top and bottom ends of the legs. This is not what a person would call fine craftsmanship, but can be called "fun" craftsmanship. It is an easy project, producing a piece of furniture that can last years and highlight the interesting character of our native woods. Other great things about this project are that you can do it with fairly simple tools and without a real wood working shop, from materials growing wild in your own back yard.
