This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.
How is your rehab program working for you Doug. I hope that your are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI had a heart attack last year and went through a 36 day rehab plan of one hour of cardiac exercise and one hour of the Pritikan nutrition plan. I am doing ok.

Doug,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your article regarding the challenges that teachers face in today’s schools.
You stated in your article “ I doodled and thought of so many other things to kill time as I’m sure every other student did when facing the numbness of American education.”
I started school in 1945 and graduated in 1958. I never felt the need to doodle etc. as I was thoroughly engaged in school and enjoyed every day of school. I had fabulous teachers and never felt the “numbness of American education” that you felt. I was exposed to industrial arts, wood shop, metal shop, printing, drafting, art, music, sciences, theatre, band, sports and glee club.
I retired from a career of software development. I am the president of our local woodworking club and will celebrate my eighty fifth birthday in March.
You are an inspiration to me in my woodworking and have learned so much from all your books.
The Clear Spring School was very fortunate to have you teaching woodworking and your “Wisdom of the Hands” approach.
All the best,
Roger Davis
