Last week I had mentioned a survey by W. Andrew Harrell, Ph.D. "a retired university professor, interested in preserving and promoting wood shops in schools." He may be retired from the university, but is actually director and CEO of Harrell and Associates whose website, KidsAccidents.com may give a better view of his real concerns. Dr. Harrell is an expert witness and attorney. Would he use his testimony to target hands-on learning as dangerous and further disable hands-on learning opportunities for our children? I had been disturbed in taking the survey that it all had to do with accidents and danger rather than woodworking's many values and virtues. I suggest that anyone having responded to Dr. Harrell's survey contact him at http://www.kidsaccident.com/contactus.html to rescind your participation and challenge him for not having laid his cards on the table. He misrepresented himself to us in the first place. As concerned woodworkers, teachers and parents, we must not let his misrepresentation go unchallenged. Of course I could be mistaken about Dr. Harrell's intent, but one rarely gets a second chance to make a first impression. Laying one's cards on the table makes a better start.

Just another one of the corporate elites taking us to the bank. This from Chris Hedges:We will either defy the corporate elite, which will mean civil disobedience, a rejection of traditional politics for a new radicalism and the systematic breaking of laws, or see ourselves consumed. Time is not on our side. The longer we wait, the more assured our destruction becomes. The future, if we remain passive, will be wrested from us by events.
