Make, fix and create...
This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

Awakening passion in teaching
In order for teachers to awaken our children to their great potential as learners, we must provide for the awakening of passions in our teachers as well. That requires a change in the structure of schools, allowing flexibility, allowing creativity and experimentation. It requires allowing teachers to move beyond the set curriculum to explore areas of awakened interest and passion. It requires hiring teachers with the expectation that they will give their best, and then establishing a framework of trust that allows them to deliver.
Wauw Doug! Thats just what education needs ….
ReplyDeleteBut according to my opinion: we are far away from that. At least hete in the Netherlands.
Until some years ago I was a teacher boatbuilding; in my own school AND in a public vocational college where furniture makers were born ….
Governments destroy more that you want in their attempts to get the education process under their control.
Just before I retired I had the opportunity to “set my own rules” more or less …. Just because I was the only one in the team teaching wooden boatbuilding. I had a lot of leeway but thats getting less and less. Also the teacher that followed up on me has not got the energy or guts to grab his “freedom”.
These teachers are scars.
There is no college where teachers learn this …
It depends on the individual ….
Life itself can learn you that!
Maybe you have some examples in your large work here on the web? Or a part where teachers can learn how to grow and learn from others that went before …? I am just new here (again)
