Today, in addition to making walnut parts for small wooden boxes and beginning to inlay their lids, I'll search through my supply of maple to find a piece of maple wood lovely enough to make a special box for the cremains of a good friend dying of cancer.My sister Mary and I each have each written chapters in a new book that will be released in two weeks by Cahaba Press. Not Dead Yet, Reflections on Life, Aging and Death was conceived and edited by a good friend Dan Krotz. My own contribution to the book offers a few of the things one learns through craftsmanship and engagement in life hands first.

ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your posts, but now and then I want to tell you about something that specifically inspires me.
I am supporting two people who are approaching death right now, my mom and a dear old friend who dedicated his life to writing about the history of Seattle.
And I have been reading some good books about aging and death, and caring for those who are engaged in those passages. And I will probably order a copy of Not Dead Yet,
But I wanted to thank you in advance for your contribution to that book. I imagine the chapter will be wonderful, but even the short excerpt on the back cover from you is inspiring.
I am at a stage in my life where I look up to and emulate people like you who have given so much to others and have trusted that doing valuable things patiently and devotedly is the ultimate reward we should seek in life.
