This is fascinating. And it tells what kids need to be studying in school. I have been working on an outline of a book about hands-on learning which I've submitted to a New York agent, so I've had less time for the blog. Please go ahead on your own, make my day.
Make, fix and create...
Awesome! Congratulations. I'm already looking forward to the book.
ReplyDeleteGreat find.
ReplyDeleteI want to explore teaching arithmatic using abacuses the students construct in woodshop - anyone want to join the project?
We should also be building whiffle tree's in woodshop as an intro to the information age....

we make abacuses of two types, one for the lower elementary and one for the upper. I need to do sketchup drawings of those when I have time.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd be very happy to see the plans and perhaps more importantly, to see how this is integrated into the curriculum.
I took a position next year in a school where my primary job will be integrating hands on projects "kettenis" into the "wischenschaft" or formal learning.
This would be a great piece to include.
Thanks!
