This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

A Master's Life Unfolds
There is a new book about Wharton Esherick that should be a rather delightful though expensive treat for his fans. Wharton Esherick: The Journey of a Creative Mind by his son-in-law Mansfield Bascom is a noteworthy contribution to the understanding of a great American artist. My only quibble is a small one. Knowing Esherick's work, I would have entitled it "Wharton Esherick: the Journey of Creative Hands," but sadly, that probably would have sold far fewer copies. Too few beyond the time of Anaxagoras seem to know that the hands are the source of human wisdom.
