This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

time to throw the bums out?
Is it time to throw the administrators and politicians out of American classrooms and let teachers teach? From the New York Times: In a New Role, Teachers Move to Run Schools. As you can see in the photo above, I am inlaying the wooden ties in the front of the veneered cabinets, using a router inlay kit. The template controls the travel of the router, and the bit is set just deep enough to rout through the veneer glued to the face of the cabinet.
Ah, the education conundrum. Schools are failing, and blame is being spread around to teachers, administrators, school boards and unions. Your modest proposals need to be part of a broader movement to make our schools great again.
