This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

leg tenons
As you can see in the photo, I have been forming the tenons on the ends of the legs. This is an operation that can get confusing because the tenons are offset to allow for the legs to be tapered toward the top, and because they are in pairs, left and right. Cutting on the table saw, rather than by hand speeds the process up increasing the chance of error. I goofed one up and had to make a replacement. But it is good to do work that demands your attention and that calls you back to the moment when your attention wanders. In Zen, it might be called mindfulness. In woodworking, it is called craftsmanship.
