This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

plugs and stones
Today I made small walnut plugs to cover the lag bolts used to assemble portions of the bench, and have begun the process of inlaying the stones on the top.
Doug, all things considered, what a beautiful piece of walnut! What a privilege to work with such a beautiful piece of wood.
I had a discussion today with a faculty member who is concerned with trees and their well being. I had a moment of angst yesterday while driving home to note that the Bradford Pear trees had been decimated to make way for the power lines...yikes, what is going on??? The pear trees are normally perfectly shaped and are in full bloom now. But they have been destroyed. How sad...in the name of the electric grid. Sigh....
