This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

making toy cars
Throughout this week before the holiday break, the students at Clear Spring school are all making toy cars to distribute to children at our local food bank. Each of our kids get to keep one that they've made for themselves. Some of the first grade students are reluctant to give away something they've made, but by the time they are in 3rd and 4th, they give freely , knowing they can make more. Children quickly learn that giving work away provides the excuse to make more, and the real value isn't in the finished object but in the making of it. The photo above shows the 3rd and 4th grade students with their keepers.
