This blog is dedicated to sharing the concept that our hands are essential to learning- that we engage the world and its wonders, sensing and creating primarily through the agency of our hands. We abandon our children to education in boredom and intellectual escapism by failing to engage their hands in learning and making.

The first and second graders at Clear Spring have been studying clocks and telling time, so with help in the wood shop, they've made their own. Some were decorated as cats like the one shown in the photo, and some were decorated as koalas inspired by their concurrent study of Australia. At this point in my teaching, I am convinced that nearly anything you study in school can be reinforced and made more interesting by a bit of time spent in the wood shop. I also believe that in time, others involved in education will come to the same understanding.
